Biden Administration Extends Eviction Moratorium and Announces Enforcement

On Monday, March 29, 2021. the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) extended the federal eviction moratorium through June 30, 2021. In addition, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will launch a new effort to increase awareness of the moratorium’s protections and work with the Federal Trade Commission to enforce penalties against landlords who violate the order. Both the extension and enforcement of the eviction moratorium are critical to helping older adults and their families remain stably housed during the pandemic as states and local communities work to distribute the emergency rental assistance included in the American Rescue Plan.  Learn more about these efforts in the White House Fact Sheet and what this means for renters and ongoing issues from the National Low-Income Housing Coalition.
