Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to share a new blog by Sgt. Bernadette Smith from Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, “Good Neighbor Program: A Law Enforcement Program Worth Replicating.” Strong community connections with law enforcement are essential to ensure we all age with dignity and respect. This was the impetus for the Douglas County Sherriff’s office in designing the Good Neighbor Program. This community outreach program connects the sheriff’s office peace officers and volunteers with older adults in the community to provide home visits, awareness of scams, and friendship. Sgt. Bernadette Smith shares the benefits of this program and the model of this service that can be replicated in every community.
