| Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce the release of a new factsheet, “Medication Issues,” from the National Indigenous Elder Justice Initiative (NIEJI) at the University of North Dakota’s Online Interactive Educational Module and the National Center on Elder Abuse and Keck School of Medicine of USC. While medications can help with health and wellbeing, they can also cause problems for older adults. Pharmaceuticals, legal and illegal, contribute to increased risks of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults. Building trust and creating a culturally safe environment between providers and Indigenous patients is imperative to prevent risk of abuse.
