Law Enforcement’s Role in Combating Elder Fraud

June 20 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

A Path to Justice: Law Enforcement’s Role in Combating Elder Fraud (1.5 CPE Credits) – 6/20/25

Registration required for this FREE event:   https://events.aarp.org/PathToJustice

Fraud is at a crisis level in this country, and we need a whole-of-society response to begin to address its catastrophic impact. Older adults are often targeted because of a presumption that they have wealth, and fraud criminals seek to steal everything from them.   Local, state, and federal law enforcement have a critical role to play in addressing this crime and pursuing justice for the victims whose lives have been destroyed.  This session will focus on ways investigators, prosecutors, and community advocates can work together to begin to disrupt the fraud business model. We’ll discuss:

  • The impact of fraud on older adults and their families
  • Common myths surrounding law enforcement and prosecution in fraud cases
  • Key elements of law enforcement fraud investigations
  • Strategies for successful prosecutions
  • How to engage with fraud victims to avoid revictimization

The primary audience is local and state law enforcement professionals; however, this 90-minute presentation is open to all. Attendees will earn 1.5 CPE credits, and additional documentation for CLE credits can be provided upon request.
